There's nothing quite like wandering on a forest path, and you've captured the majesty of the trees beautifully, John. I enjoyed these photos a lot. The Elton cover is quite unique... a good choice to stray from the known original.

I wish you peace and care during this first holiday season without your dear Ruth by your side, finding your way in a new life.

Thank you Steve. Your comments and best wishes mean a lot and I appreciate you taking the time to visit. I'll likely be listening in to Marsden tomorrow night and hope you will be able to drop in now and then. NY used to play Sit Down by James a lot, a favourite track of mine, and I think I've heard their track Laid more than once or twice, but I am surprised by the vast collection of albums they have. Interesting that Eno was involved in so many.

My best wishes to you and your sweetie this Christmas and New Years.

My first introduction this picturesque trail!

It is indeed the yellow brick road. Your skilled and creative photography gives the photos a soft surreal look.

Wishing you the best that is possible for the holiday season.

Thank You Linda. I'm glad to have introduced you to Carstairs. It is one of the easiest places to go for a walk and only a few minutes up 45 from Cobourg. If you like animals, it is also right next door to Primrose Donkey Sanctuary. Best wishes to you as well for season of peace and craziness, and the coming year.

Thank You so much Heidi. You are such a kind heart. I made the mistake of subscribing to far too many Substacks and now I feel like I'm ignoring them all. I don't mean to but I know it's true. Happy holidays to you and the critters. My three are taking refuge from the sub-zero weather by basking in the sun streaming into the back room. I'll get the woodstove going soon so we can all cuddle up to it for the long night ahead.

Thank you, John. No worries on your reading level, I totally understand. I’m also always impressed by Canadians in the winter. A 3 cat or dog night is in order. If you want something fun to read, we just finished our first novel with the concluding Chapter posting on Tuesday and all of the chapter links provided. The Case of The Misplaced Priority Envelope brought to you by the J Kitten, Sleuth & Purveyor of Bright Shiny Objects Detective Agency. Take good care, John.

I love this trail and yes, it is wonderfully accessible. Forests are my place to be and any way I get there, including through your images is a blessing. 💗

CA, you were definitely in my thoughts when I visited this site and as I wrote this column. The old adage, "Walk a mile in my shoes" feels like it needs an update. Perhaps Paul McCartney hit the mark with. "My heart is like a wheel. let me roll it, let me roll it to you." All I know is this world needs less hate and more empathy. Seasons greetings to you, Jamie and the brood.

So goodbye yellow brick road

Where the dogs of society howl

You can't plant me in your penthouse

I'm going back to my plough

Back to the howling old owls

Hunting the horny back toad

Oh, I've finally decided my future lies

Beyond the yellow brick road

Exceptional lyrics to match your photos and story, John. Goodbye to the shiny and artificial. Hello to dirt roads and tree landscapes, to the natural and real. Happy holidays.

Thank you for highlighting those lyrics Perry. Yes, I agree, and as Dr. Fromm suggests in the interview you posted on Mental Health, the natural and the real are our only potential salvation from the ills of modern society. In short, we have to get ourselves back to the garden. To our natural state. The howling old owl resides in the woods. We must cast off artiface and greed. Happy Holidays Perry.
